Having It All and The Answer: Grow Any Business, Achieve Financial Freedom, and Live an Extraordinary Lifeappeared in the documentary The Secret where he relayed how a vision board can help you work on your dreams strategically. The idea of a vision board has existed since the early 1900s but it was John Assaraf’s testimonial that shifted the limelight to it as a personal motivator in accomplishing goals. The idea is to a have vision board or dream board that you can see daily to fuel your desire to work towards your goals. According to business coach and successful author John Canfield, a vision board is a powerful tool that serves as your image of the future – a tangible representation of where you are going. It represents your dreams, your goals, and your ideal life. Because your mind responds strongly to visual stimulation-by representing your goals with pictures and images-you will actually strengthen and stimulate your emotions…  and your emotions are the vibrational energy that activates the Law of Attraction.

Create

Your dream board is your own so you could design it however you want it to be. It is basically a collage of anything and everything your heart desires so it could be made up of photos, words, a snippet of a favorite book or quotation, some memorabilia. You could even pin your current pay check there if you intend to receiver a higher one in a few months. Your brain works better when presented with this visual representation of the things you aim for. This visualisation is to trigger the information filtering system of the brain called the reticular activating system (RAS). As you bombard your brain daily with these “reminders,” you program the RAS to be more sensitive to external stimuli that could help you move closer to your goals. It filters the information it receives and tags the more important “items” to be sent your brain. So the brain recognises all the necessary steps it should take and focuses on the processes that would assist you reach your visions.

Strategize

It’s important that you place your dream board in an area where you can see it more often. Some put it on their bedside table, others in front of their desk at work, while several place theirs beside their dresser. We suggest that you choose a spot where it’s the last thing you see before you head off to dreamland and the first thing your eyes will open up to. It was said that the images you have seen in the last forty-five minutes before dozing off are the same images that your subconscious mind will replay the whole night, therefore prodding the brain to create a vibrational match for the future you desire.  It may seem like a bit too much “in your face,” but waking up to what you want to be and places you want to go to does a good job of getting you up during mornings when it’s too cold or too tiring to go to work and earn your keep. Nothing could motivate you more than the thought that each day brings you closer to your dreams.

Work It

A dream board serves as an inspiration, to tickle the brain into thinking of positive things that would ultimately push you into action. Even the most intricate dream board though would be useless if you won’t get your act together. If the goal is to quit your corporate job next year to backpack, then work harder to grow your savings. If starting your own business is something you want to do before the year ends, don’t just stare at the vision board wishing for a business. Take that first step and do something that will bring you closer to your goal. The vision board will give you the inspiration and keep your goals top of mind, but it is up to you to make things happen. To make things more awesome, include short-term challenges that can easily be overcome. Maybe a step towards losing that stubborn weight is to say goodbye to junk foods. Put that in your dream board: no junk foods for one week! Then another week, and another week, until you don’t crave for it anymore.  Short-term goals give you the high and momentum you need to keep on keeping on. It’s easy to lose motivation, especially when all the hard work seems not to matter so much. Are you ready to make all your dreams come true? What are the things you want to put in your dream board?
